HOW TO LEARN EDITING (CONCEPTION FOR BEGINNERS)

So you take those bad-ass pictures with your camera , now What ? Are you happy with it ? If you are , then you shouldn't , because it could be more defining than you think it is. Yes you have to RE-CAPTURE  the picture that you shot , how do you do that ? By editing them. So here am I going to teach you "How to learn Editing" - please note that No one can teach the whole editing-territory in a single page or video. But they will help to give you the basics 'How to start learning editing' - So jump right into it.

1) Take a seat and watch what other photographers do

Editing has it's own taste , a taste that keep increase with time & flow.

Before editing , you have to see what editing is and what is the limit of editing ? Use Instagram to see before & after  editing-pictures and YouTube tutorials also.

It will help to to develop your own imagination that satisfy you after the editing is done.

2) Choosing the Application-Softwear

If you think that , after reading this article  you will go to YouTube and start watching every editing tutorial as you can , then  STOP! You are new to the editing world , you have to learn the basics before watching & learning the industrial grade processing software.

Start with the basic editing software. Try with the basics then you would go for a High-End processing software. ***Don't use Photoshop for Editing at this point, don't. It is not a beginner's thing , if you want to use Adobe then go for Light-room  but don't use Photoshop. You will move on to Photoshop yourself, when your time will come, you don't need to find the reason why you need Photoshop to edit those images***

If you have a phone then its the best way to start editing with them. And remember not to apply editing preset or so called " One touch edit - Packs " for god sake.

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.zentertain.photoeditor - The best photo-editor in my opinion. ***I would like bypass Light-room App & Snap-seed - Colour science of those apps are inappropriate.***

https://picasa.en.uptodown.com/windows-Picasa & https://www.polarr.co/editor/0-Polarr is recomended for beginners.

You can also try Light room if you really wanted to try it out, but it will take much effort to get used to.
If you want me to discuss some of these Apps - please inform me

3) Passion is the Golden-Key

Wait, it will take time to build a good editor ! It took me more than 5 years to understand the basics of Editing. It is a very-big space , don't panic by thinking that " OMG! His photos look soo damm good , I cant reach him " - believe me ,in future you can , but then you wont want to copy him anymore .

It takes time, and the time worth it,so keep practicing.

"It took me 13 years to figure out how to edit" - Peter McKinon

4) Try to learn the rules of editing

There are some rules of editing that you can't bypass.

How you can learn them ? "By the time" as you learn editing , you will get to know these rules.

I will discuss 6 of them  - 1) Manage Shadows-Highlights to reduce over/under-exposure 2) Manage the perfect White-Balance 3) Don't Saturate your image , boost their vibrancy  4) Eliminate facial-shadows in portraiture 5) Don't make it artificial 6) Maintain the skin-tone as much as possible

- there are hundreds & hundreds of rules like them . Just try to follow them.

5) Don't lay over to editing so much

Don't live upon editing too much, it's the biggest con of editing.

Editing is called post-production , what it means is "If you are done with your pre-production completely(which is photography) , then you can go to refine it much more". Remember - the less you have to edit your photos , the less mistake you make.

***Even National-Geographic Photographer have to submit unedited photos to the community***. So you have to stay in your limit to stop destroying your photography over editing-purpose .

6) Re-search

Every-time you have to adjust a thing (Like - Whites,Blacks,Vibrancy,Masking), and if you don't know the function of those , just Google or YouTube them, instead of trying them, you have to learn from basics, which give you a perfect sense of those functions.

And it is highly recommended to learn Tone-Curve. If you want an article about tone-curve , then please let me know.
