If you are reading this article then I assume that you want some tips to be a good photographer. But apart from that I will give you some theories about the whole Photography things. So lets start ...
1) Less gear - More creativity
You can be a very good photographer even if you cant afford those DSLR & Heavy as shit Lenses. The reason behind this is - photography is a thing that proves how rich you are how creative you are. And creativity is all about your mind , you have to upgrade your creativity before upgrading your camera gears.
You have your phone ? Thats is , at first touch the limit of Capability of your phone , then buy a capable piece of equipment. But how did you know that whats the limit your existing camera(maybe its your phone or point&shoot) right ? Just Instagram #(Your camera name) - and you can see those images that will blow your mind , proving that your existing gear is not less than a treasure.
If you buy a High-End DSLR today - you wont get that much resistance in your photography compared to mobile-phone Photography. And that is good , the more problem you have - the more you solve- that broadens your mind.
How to get light to reduce Noise ? how to fit a portrait that looks good in a wide angel ? How to get rid of Motion-Blur ? - by solving this problems , you wont believe how far you go before buying a dedicated camera & gear.
And money is the enemy of your creativity, it will solve the problems that teaches you the most.
Example - If I have to shoot a 'Burger' by only my phone - 1) I have to get the lighting *natural/sunlight (Gives me sense about light 2) I have to use natural reflector ( Gives me sense about shadows) 3) I have to shoot as blad-colour as I can with manual mode ( Gives me sense of colours) 4) I have to edit those using simple-editing apps (Gives me basic sense of adjustments) 5) It will give you hunger to try those high-end gears that causes worth of your money after purchasing those in future.
VS
If I have to shoot a 'Burger' by High-level camera gears - 1) Buy a spotlight/flashgun 2) Buy another spotlight/flashgun 3) Shoot RAW 4) Apply presets of popular photographers 5) Stops from thinking
2) Don't be shy to take-out your camera
I strongly feel that, there are some photographer who feel shy to take out their their camera and shoot the immediate scene. And that's not OK !
Stop thinking what others are thinking. If you miss the shot that came to your mind in that perfect time and if you dont capture that , remember , your life wont give you a chance to shoot that scene again , maybe never ever.
Carry your camera everywhere (Even phone can do the work) and snap that perfect frame that you want to capture in that time , maybe it could be your best photograph till date !
3) Be inspire but don't copy
some times you feel "Look Brandon Woelfel , his lighting and editing skills are awesome , Look Peter McKinon his post processing is awesome , Look Kai Boet etc." Yes its fine to get inspired by their skills in your photography , but every thing has its limit.
You are you , not a xerox of those photographers , be you , what your eyes feel pleasure of , the thing that you and only you can, then you will be the diamond among coals.
If you started copying your ideal photographer - you would be known to his follower not the leader. But you need your identity , not a follower of pre-established photographers.
Be your self and try to put you in pictures , it will take time but believe me it worth it.
4) Be a good editor
Some people thing that learning about cameras is all-photography. But NOOOOOO! editing is also as important as capturing the photo.
Photos the poems without words, if you failed to give the photos the look that you want ,then it is the worst thing. Learn about editing as much as you can, and practice it till you got your satisfaction.Remember , photos are a piece of bread - you have to sauce it to taste good.
5)Learn from Everywhere
Photography is a deep ocean , once you jumped into this then you cant go to the beach again , you have to swim, it depends how you swim that confirms your value. So you have to learn swimming as much as you can.
The question comes how to learn it , Right ? There are several books that give you basic knowledge about photography , internet & YouTube is another great platform to learn photography. But whats the best way ?
Human , being observing humans , you can easily taught photography in a natural and best way possible.
Don't underestimate anyone , I repeat, anyone ! Everyone has least something that you don't know, don't feel shy to learn even they are younger than you . Learn as much as you can, but it never ends like the ocean, the better you swim - the better you live.
